Therapy doesn't have to be complicated.

You don't need to know what kind of therapy you want, you don't need to have a diagnosis and you certainly don't need to have worked out exactly what's wrong.

You might be struggling with something specific, noticed patterns in your life or relationships that you'd like to understand better, you might simply feel that talking to someone could help.

Wherever you're starting from, we'll help you work out what comes next.

What kind of therapy will I have?

While every therapist works uniquely, most draw from established therapeutic approaches. Here are some of the most common models you might encounter at COR.

Psychodynamic

Focuses on unconscious processes and how past experiences shape current behaviour and relationships.

Transactional Analysis

Explores social transactions to understand the 'ego states' (Parent, Adult, Child) we communicate from that impact our life and relationships.

Gestalt

Emphasises personal responsibility and focuses on individual experience in the present moment.

Existential

Explores the human condition as a whole, focusing on free will, self-determination, and the search for meaning.

Humanistic

Values the whole person and encourages self-exploration to reach full potential and what's known as 'self-actualisation'.

Person-centred

Provides a non-judgmental environment where the client leads the direction of therapy.

Integrative

Combines elements from different therapeutic models to suit the specific needs of the individual and/or specific goals.

Do I need to choose a type of therapy?

In short: no. You don't need to be an expert in therapeutic models to benefit from them. During your Introduction, we listen to what you need and match you with a therapist whose approach aligns with your goals.

Does the type of therapy really matter?

While techniques are helpful, decades of research show that the single most important factor in effective therapy is the quality of the relationship between you and your therapist. It's the trust, safety, and connection you build that creates the space for change.

The model is the map, but the relationship is the journey.

Experienced oversight and thoughtfully selected therapists.

Every therapist at COR is hand-selected not just for their clinical expertise, but for their warmth and commitment to the therapeutic relationship, and for their pre-therapy training experience. Our practice is built on a foundation of clinical supervision and ongoing professional development, ensuring you receive the highest standard of care throughout your time with us.

A few things worth knowing.

How long does therapy last?

There is no fixed duration. Some people find that a few months of weekly sessions is enough to work through a specific challenge, while others choose to stay in therapy for a year or more to explore deeper patterns. We'll regularly review how things are going together.

Is it confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. Everything discussed in your sessions remains between you and your therapist, with very few exceptions related to safety which will be clearly explained in your first session.

What if I don't click with my therapist?

The relationship is vital. If for any reason you feel the match isn't quite right after your first few sessions, we encourage you to tell us. We can help you transition to a different therapist within the practice who might be a better fit.
